Compare BeigeCheck

Originality.ai tells you whether a machine probably wrote it. BeigeCheck tells you what to change so a reader doesn't care.

Last checked 3 November 2026

Originality.ai is a detection tool for publishers, agencies and schools. It estimates how much of a text was written by AI and checks for plagiarism, and it has added a web fact-checker, a guideline checker and a quality score, with a Chrome extension and an MCP connector that runs its scan inside ChatGPT and Claude.

BeigeCheck doesn’t ask who wrote the draft. It gives Claude, ChatGPT and Microsoft 365 Copilot your approved facts and voice before they write, then scores the draft for how authentic it reads and how well it fits the voice, quotes the sentences to change, and checks each claim against your facts. The Beige-ometer is a different kind of number from Originality.ai’s: it scores how the writing reads, whoever wrote it.

Side by side

Works inside your own AI tools

Originality.ai
Yes, for its scan. An MCP server with one tool that checks text for likely AI writing, in ChatGPT, Codex, Claude and Claude Code. Copilot and Gemini aren’t mentioned. Nothing about your company reaches the model.
BeigeCheck
Claude and ChatGPT on every plan; Microsoft 365 Copilot from Business up. The model gets your facts and voice before it writes.

Other places it works

Originality.ai
Its own app, Bulk Scan, a Chrome and Firefox extension with Google Docs writer replay, Moodle, and an API on Enterprise.
BeigeCheck
A web API for your own systems on Business Integrated and Enterprise.

What it checks

Originality.ai
AI likelihood in three bands (under 10%, 10 to 80%, over 80%); plagiarism; a web fact-checker that finds sources online for each claim; a guideline checker against AP, Chicago, APA, Canadian Press or your own guide; a content quality score of High, Good or Low; grammar and readability.
BeigeCheck
The Beige-ometer on every draft: how authentic it reads and how well it fits the voice, with the sentences to change and a fix for each; Citability on public formats; a claim check against your approved facts. It never guesses who wrote the text.

Company voice

Originality.ai
Not shown on its public pages. A custom guideline in the guideline checker is the nearest thing.
BeigeCheck
Yes: an approved company voice per kind of writing, a glossary and house rules.

Personal voice

Originality.ai
Not shown on its public pages.
BeigeCheck
Yes: each person’s own voice, built only from writing they’ve done themselves.

Approved facts with sources

Originality.ai
No. Its fact-checker verifies claims against the open web; you can’t supply your own approved facts.
BeigeCheck
Yes: approved facts, each with its source and version, in six areas; every claim in a draft checked against them.

Learning

Originality.ai
Only as opt-in training data for its own detector, which you can switch off.
BeigeCheck
Proposes changes from your documents and from the edits people keep making; an approver decides every one.

Where they overlap

Both read a draft and give it a number inside the chat you’re already using, and both have widened from one check to several. Originality.ai began with detection and has added fact-checking, guidelines and quality; BeigeCheck began with the Beige-ometer and holds facts and voice beside it. Both check claims, in different ways: Originality.ai looks for a source on the web, BeigeCheck looks in the facts your company has approved.

Originality.ai does two things BeigeCheck doesn’t do at all. It estimates authorship, which a publisher paying freelancers or a school marking essays needs, and it checks for plagiarism. If the question is “did a person write this?”, Originality.ai is built for it and BeigeCheck won’t answer.

Where they differ

The first difference is the question each score answers. Originality.ai’s score is a probability that a model wrote the text. The Beige-ometer’s score is about the reader: whether the writing carries the habits that make people stop trusting it, whichever hand typed it. A paragraph a person wrote in stock phrases scores badly on the Beige-ometer and passes a detector; a paragraph a model wrote from a specific brief, in the writer’s own voice, can pass both. The Beige-ometer also quotes the sentences and suggests a fix, so the number comes with the work.

The second is what the model knew before it wrote. Originality.ai acts on output only. BeigeCheck supplies the approved voice, glossary, house rules and facts before Claude or ChatGPT writes a word, so generic phrasing and wrong figures are avoided at the start rather than caught at the end.

The third is facts. Originality.ai’s fact-checker searches the web, which is useful for public claims and no use for your own: your prices, your client list, your results. BeigeCheck checks against the facts your company has approved, each with a source and a version, with an approver behind every change.

And the fourth is voice. Originality.ai’s pages show no brand voice and no personal voice. BeigeCheck has both, and scores how well the draft fits whichever it’s written in.

Who each suits

Originality.ai suits a publisher, agency or school that needs to know whether submitted writing was machine-made or copied, and wants that verdict cheaply, at scale, with a plagiarism report attached.

BeigeCheck suits a company that writes in its own name with Claude, ChatGPT or Copilot and cares less about who wrote the draft than about whether it’s true, sounds like the company and still sounds like the person. Some companies will want both: Originality.ai for the authorship question, BeigeCheck for the writing.
